The theatre is a spiritual and social X-ray of its time.

For the theatre one needs long arms; it is better to have them too long than too short. An artiste with short arms can never, never make a fine gesture.

Fifteen years before I became a screen actor, I was in the theatre. A lot of my work was comedy, which I loved doing. It’s harder.

And when I go to see plays, I marvel at how people can do that. I’ve done it all my life, but I still find it mystical.
