Growing up, I decided, a long time ago, I wouldn’t accept any manmade differences between human beings, differences made at somebody else’s insistence or someone else’s whim or convenience.

The good we secure for ourselves is precarious and uncertain until it is secured for all of us and incorporated into our common life.

We don’t need a melting pot in this country, folks. We need a salad bowl. In a salad bowl, you put in the different things. You want the vegetables – the lettuce, the cucumbers, the onions, the green peppers – to maintain their identity. You appreciate differences.

Cross-cultural marriage is difficult, especially when one person has to live in another country. But I thought there was a very good chance of it working because people grow together if they have a common passion.

Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.

Though we may know Him by a thousand names, He is one and the same to us all.

For a real New India to arise, all petty and small things must be given up. To be redeemed, all Indians must offer to sacrifice not only their good things, but all those evil things they cling to blindly – their hates and their divisions, their pride in what they should be thoroughly ashamed of, their quarrels and misunderstandings.
